Casinos were legalized in West Virginia in 1993. The first casinos in the state only offered slots, video poker, and electronic table games. In 2003, table games were permitted at these casinos, which added games such as craps, roulette, blackjack, Three Card Poker, Pai Gow Poker, Mississippi Stud, and poker.

There are four racinos in West Virginia. These are casinos located at horse or greyhound tracks. Each offers a variety of slots, video poker, and table games.

Hollywood Casino at Charles Town Races
Hollywood Casino offers slots, a large pit, and a poker room. It is home to a hotel, three restaurants, a food court, and a sportsbook. Hollywood Casino also offers mobile sports betting through its ESPN BET and DraftKings-powered apps.
Mardi Gras Casino
Mardi Gras Casino is near Charleston. It has the typical gaming amenities of slots, video poker, table games, a Betly Sportsbook, and a poker room. It has a hotel and three restaurants.
Mountaineer Casino
Mountaineer Casino is in New Cumberland in the northern panhandle of West Virginia. Its casino is convenient for players in western Pennsylvania and eastern Ohio. It offers a typical gaming menu that includes mobile sports betting. It has a hotel, spa, golf course, and five restaurants. Caesars Sportsbook handles the live and mobile sportsbook for Mountaineer Casino.
Wheeling Island
Wheeling Island is in the northern panhandle. It offers two table game pits, a poker room, and a slot floor. It hosts a Betly sportsbook, a hotel, and three restaurants.
West Virginia private resort casino
Casino Club at Greenbrier
West Virginia is home to the only private casino in the United States. It is located at The Casino Club at Greenbrier in West Sulphur Springs. Patrons must be registered hotel guests, members of a private club related to the property, or approved guests through another event. Proper attire is required. At night, this means a jacket for men.
Greenbrier’s casino offers a typical slate of games. This includes a poker room (currently closed). The limits are higher at Greenbrier than other West Virginia casinos, due to it being a luxury resort.
There are three sportsbooks associated with Greenbrier. FanDuel operates the physical sportsbook at the property, while BetMGM and Golden Nugget power additional online sports betting apps.
