West Virginia Poker Rooms

Three West Virginia casinos have poker rooms. The limits tend to be on the smaller side. The most common game is Texas hold’em, which is typically dealt in fixed- and no-limit formats. There are also fixed- and pot-limit Omaha hi/lo games in West Virginia poker rooms.

Online poker is legal in West Virginia. However, no sites have launched. Legal and licensed West Virginia online casino games and mobile sportsbooks are available.

Hollywood Casino at Charles Town Races poker room

The Hollywood Casino at Charles Town Races spreads 17 poker tables. Eight players are seated per table. The poker room opens at 9am Wednesday through Sunday. It closes at 6am on weekend nights and 3am on Wednesdays, Thursdays, and Sundays. The Hollywood Casino at Charles Town Races poker room is dark on Mondays and Tuesdays.

The main game is 1/2 no-limit Texas hold’em with a $100 to $400 buy-in. A 2/5 no-limit or 3/6 fixed-limit hold’em game is also available. The 2/5 game has a $300 to $1,000 buy-in range.

A 2/2 pot limit Omaha cash game is dealt every Friday at 3pm. There is a 5/10 no limit hold’em game on Saturday mornings at 9am.

Hollywood Casino hosted poker tournaments five days a week before the pandemic closure. At the time, there was a $135 no-limit Texas hold’em tournament at 11am on Monday and Thursday. There was also a $200 no-limit hold’em tournament at 6 pm on Friday and Sunday. A similar 6pm tourney on Saturday offered a $225 buy-in. These tournaments are currently suspended.

Hollywood Casino offers poker promotions every day the room is open. These are usually high hands, bad beat jackpots, and hourly cashback for loyal players.

Current promotions, as of June 2024, include winning up to $1000 for making a royal flush with both hole cards. Hitting on the flop pays $1000. It is $500 for the turn and $250 for the river. High hand promotions pay $100 for aces full, $200 for quads, and $300 for a straight flush.

The bad beat jackpot pays $5000 to the loser, $2500 to the winner, and a table share of $2500 divided among all other players dealt in the hand. The minimum qualifying hand is aces full of kings. Both hole cards must be used.

Players who give 50 hours of qualifying cash game action in June 2024 receive $50. It is $125 for 75 hours and $250 for 100 hours. The PennPlay card must be used to participate in this promotion.

Closed West Virginia poker rooms

The Casino Club at Greenbrier poker room

There were two tables in the Greenbrier poker room. It appears to be permanently closed.

During normal operations, the room opened at 7pm and closed when the last game broke. The Greenbrier poker room was only open to hotel guests or members of the resort’s private clubs, as part of the only private casino in the United States. Proper attire is required. For men, that means a jacket.

The main game at the Greenbrier poker room was no-limit Texas hold’em. Tournaments were spread during busier tourism times, typically a $30 one on Thursdays and a $250 tourney on the first Saturday of the month.

Mountaineer Casino poker room

The Mountaineer Casino’s poker room is permanently closed. It hosted 14 tables and was open 24 hours a day.

The main games at Mountaineer were 1/2 no-limit Texas hold’em and 2/4 fixed-limit. The buy-in range for the no-limit game was $75 to $300. During normal operations, there was a $55 tournament three days a week. It started at 10:30am on Wednesday, 2pm on Sunday, and 7:30pm on Monday. On the last Sunday of the month, the $55 buy-in was replaced with a $120 buy-in no-limit hold’em tournament.

West Virginia online poker

Online poker was legalized at the same time as online casinos in West Virginia. However, no poker sites ever launched.

Delaware, Michigan, Nevada, New Jersey, and West Virginia entered into an interstate online poker compact. Online poker is live in four of those states. West Virginia poker sites will likely open in 2024. BetMGM is licensed in West Virginia and has legal online poker in Michigan and New Jersey.

Caesars has legal online poker already networked in Nevada and New Jersey. These sites connect with the Delaware Lottery online poker room. Should West Virginia join these other states, the player pools would already be established on these poker sites.
