Four West Virginia casinos have poker rooms. The limits tend to be on the smaller side. The most common game is Texas hold’em, which is typically dealt in fixed- and no-limit formats. There are also fixed- and pot-limit Omaha hi/lo games in West Virginia poker rooms.

All West Virginia poker rooms except the ones at Hollywood Casino at Charles Town Races and Mardi Gras Casino are temporarily closed due to the pandemic. This page will be updated when the state’s poker rooms reopen.

Hollywood Casino at Charles Town Races poker room

The Hollywood Casino at Charles Town Races spreads 16 poker tables. The poker room is open 10am to 2am Wednesday through Sunday. It is dark on Mondays and Tuesdays. Up to eight players are seated per table.

The main game is 1/2 no-limit Texas hold’em with a $60 to $300 buy-in. A 2/5 no-limit or 3/6 fixed-limit hold’em game is also available. The 2/5 game has a $300 to $1,000 buy-in range.

Hollywood Casino hosted poker tournaments five days a week before the pandemic closure. At the time, there was a $135 no-limit Texas hold’em tournament at 11am on Monday and Thursday. There was also a $200 no-limit hold’em tournament at 6pm on Friday and Sunday. A similar 6pm tourney on Saturday offered a $225 buy-in. These tournaments are currently suspended.

September 2021 promotions include $500 for flopping a royal flush with $250 for getting it on the turn or river. There are high hands on Sundays, Wednesday, Thursdays and Fridays.

Mardi Gras Casino poker room

The Mardi Gras Casino poker room reopened on July 15, 2021. Its hours are 4pm to 2am Thursday through Saturday. The main game is 1/2 no limit hold’em. The buy-in is $50 to $500. If a 2/5 game happens, it has $200 to $1,500 buy-in range. There may also be a pot limit Omaha or fixed limit hold’em game. The main promotion is a bad beat jackpot.

There are up to three open tables on Thursdays. Fridays and Saturdays may have up to six tables. All are cash games. There are no tournaments at the Mardi Gras poker room in West Virginia.

Closed West Virginia poker rooms

Wheeling Island poker room

There were nine tables in the Wheeling Island poker room. It opened at 11am Monday through Friday, and closed at 2:30am on Sunday through Thursday nights. The room was open 24 hours on Friday and Saturday.

Video poker and slot machines are now in the area where live poker was once dealt. The poker room sign remains intact. Hopefully this means it will return one day.

The only regular game Wheeling Island offered was 1/2 no-limit Texas hold’em. Buy-ins ranged from $50 to $200. A pot-limit Omaha game with the same buy-ins may appeared during busy times. Wheeling Island did not offer any poker tournaments.

The Casino Club at Greenbrier poker room

There were two tables in the Greenbrier poker room. It is temporarily closed.

During normal operations, the room opened at 7pm and closed when the last game broke. The Greenbrier poker room was only open to hotel guests or members of the resort’s private clubs, as part of the only private casino in the United States. Proper attire is required. For men, that means a jacket.

The main game at the Greenbrier poker room was no-limit Texas hold’em. Tournaments were spread during busier tourism times, typically a $30 one on Thursdays and a $250 tourney on the first Saturday of the month.

Mountaineer Casino poker room

The Mountaineer Casino’s poker room is permanently closed. It hosted 14 tables and was open 24 hours a day.

The main games at Mountaineer were 1/2 no-limit Texas hold’em and 2/4 fixed-limit. The buy-in range for the no-limit game was $75 to $300. During normal operations, there was a $55 tournament three days a week. It started at 10:30am on Wednesday, 2pm on Sunday, and 7:30pm on Monday. On the last Sunday of the month, the $55 buy-in was replaced with a $120 buy-in no-limit hold’em tournament.
