Play Online Blackjack in West Virginia for Real Money

Online blackjack is legal in West Virginia. The other legal online casino states are Connecticut, Delaware, Michigan, New Jersey, and Pennsylvania. The same gaming commissions that regulate live casinos also cover online ones in these states. Both are equally safe to play when properly licensed in this way.

There are many forms of online blackjack. These include traditional versions of the game, as well as variants that have different rules to give players a fun variety. Many blackjack games found at West Virginia casino sites are not available at the state’s casinos. This is true of every state where these games are licensed. The West Virginia Lottery Commission regulates all West Virginia casino games.

The following information is a review of all available online blackjack in West Virginia. It is similar to the games found in other states. It covers the games available, rules, minimum bets, and how to get started at an online casino.

You do not need to play for real money. There are free-play blackjack versions available. This helps beginners learn the game, and experts try their skills. It is also a great way to get familiar with an online blackjack variant.

Why you should play online blackjack in WV

There are many advantages to playing online blackjack in West Virginia. The best reason is that it offers a wider variety than playing in the state’s casinos. Online blackjack in WV offers variants like Free Bet Blackjack, Spanish 21, Zappit 21, and jackpot games. There is also live dealer blackjack. This is like playing in a stadium like Hollywood Casino at Charles Town Races has with a real dealer.

Another reason to play online blackjack in West Virginia is that games start at just $0.10. This covers many games at WV online casinos. Some may have a $0.25, $0.50, or $1. Live dealer games start at $1 up to $5.

The speed of online blackjack is as much as 10 times faster than a live game. However, you don’t have to play that quickly. Slow it down by waiting through the animations and clicking deal at a slower pace.

You don’t need to leave the house to play online blackjack. It is available on computers, phones, and other mobile devices.

You can clear most online casino bonuses at blackjack. However, the wagering requirement can be up to 30 times higher than slots. There are a few slots-only bonuses. Always read the terms and conditions.

You can play real-money online blackjack for only $0.10

The minimum bet at most WV online casinos with blackjack is only $0.10. You may find some games with $0.20, $0.25, $0.50, and $1 minimum bets. Live dealer versions are usually $1 or $5.

The lowest video blackjack game you will find in a casino is $1 unless it pays even money. Tables often start at $10 or more. You can risk far less money playing online blackjack than the live game.

You can play blackjack online with a bonus

Most West Virginia real money online casino bonuses permit blackjack. The wagering requirement is at least 10 times higher than slots, if available. A few offers are slots-only. Make sure to read the casino’s terms and conditions to ensure blackjack goes towards the wagering requirement.

The house edge in blackjack is low. In West Virginia, it is usually only about 0.5%. It is difficult to get comps when the casino makes such a small edge off the game. It may take high-limit action to get more than free drinks.

Players who have a sportsbook or daily fantasy sports account are not considered new customers and do not qualify for an online casino bonus. These offers may be different in states outside WV. Many online casinos give the best bonuses in West Virginia. Always read the terms and conditions of a bonus offer.

Online blackjack is much faster than the live game

One of my least favorite parts of playing live blackjack is all the lag. Players will ask strategy, then ignore the answers. It takes time to deal all the cards and settle the bets. Players entering and leaving the game can slow it down. Taking breaks can also be a problem.

You can play at any speed you wish at online blackjack. A hand can take just a few seconds, or as long as you want. You control the speed. Players and the dealer are not waiting on your decision. You can even take a break in the middle of a hand if you aren’t on the live dealer version.

Types of WV online blackjack

There are numerous forms of online blackjack in West Virginia and other states where it is legal. Many are based on the traditional game. There may be variants that add side bets or surrender. The dealer usually stands on soft 17. Blackjack pays 3/2 at almost all virtual tables. Double down before and after splitting is standard. Pairs typically may only be split one time.

There are other types of variants that have substantially different rules than normal blackjack. Blackjack Xchange, Down Under Blackjack, Free Bet Blackjack, Super Fun 21, Zappit 21, and Spanish 21 are examples. Spanish 21 is the only blackjack variant that we found in any live West Virginia casinos. DraftKings offers the most real-money blackjack variants at West Virginia online casinos.

A variety of blackjack side bets are available at legal online casinos. These include Match the Dealer, 21+3, and 777 Blazing Blackjack. There are also live dealer versions that use real cards.

Live dealer blackjack

Most online casinos in WV have live dealer blackjack. This is where a dealer is on camera. Players make bets and actions on the screen. It is like stadium gaming. There are often multiple players using the same base hand. There are often several versions of live dealer blackjack available. The minimum bet is usually $1 to $5.

Blackjack Xchange

Blackjack Xchange is a game that allows the bettor to discard at any point in the hand. The software makes an offer on your cards during every step. For example, if you are dealt a face card and a six, the dealer asks if you would like to sell the face card for a few cents or buy a new card on the six for about half of your bet, depending on the dealer’s door card.

Blackjack pays 3/2. The dealer stands on soft 17. Double down is permitted before and after splitting. Pairs may be split once. However, if the player exchanges a card, double down and splits are not permitted.

This is an innovative game that can only be dealt online. It would take too long and create too many potential errors if it was attempted at a live table. The minimum bet is $1.

Down Under Blackjack

Down Under Blackjack is dealt in a few Pennsylvania casinos, but not in West Virginia. We found this game at the DraftKings online casino.

In Down Under Blackjack, the player has an idea about the dealer’s hole card. There are three colors assigned to a light system. The dealer discloses which one the down card represents.

  • Blue: 2, 3, 4, or 5
  • Red: 6, 7, 8, or 9
  • Gold: 10, J, Q, K, or ace

The player may use this information to change their strategy. Like every game with a player-friendly rule, there is a downside. The player pushes on a dealer 22 in most situations. The exceptions are that 21 always wins against 22, and a player dealt two gold cards also wins.

Blackjack pays 3/2. Pairs may be split once. Double down is permitted before and after splitting. The dealer stands on soft 17. The minimum bet is $1.

Free Bet Blackjack

The house covers all non-20 splits and doubles on a hard 9, 10, or 11. In exchange for this, the dealer pushes on 22. The house edge for Free Bet Blackjack is 1%. That is about double the standard blackjack games. We found Free Bet Blackjack at FanDuel Casino.

Super Fun 21 Extreme

Super Fun 21 Extreme has some player-friendly rules and one to offset them. It is somewhat different than the standard Super Fun 21. It plays more like Spanish 21 without the bonus payouts.

Players may double on 2, 3, or 4 cards. Split aces may be hit and re-split. Surrender is available at any time, including after a hit or double down. Players may double down after a double down, for a four-times bet. A six-card hand that does not bust wins. A player 21, including blackjack, automatically wins.

Blackjack pays 3/2. The dealer hits on soft 17.

If Super Fun 21 sounds too good to be true, it is. Players who did not bust or get dealt a blackjack push on a dealer 22. We found Super Fun 21 at DraftKings Casino. The minimum bet is $0.10. Up to three hands may be played at a time.

Spanish 21

Spanish 21 is the only blackjack variant found at both live and online casinos in West Virginia. The tens are removed from the deck. The face cards remain. Players can double down and hit at any time. Surrender is allowed after hitting. A player 21, including blackjack, always wins. There are bonuses for making a 678 and 777 hand that makes 21. You also get paid extra on five, six, and seven-card 21 hands.

Blackjack pays 3:2. The dealer stands on soft 17. The house advantage is lower than traditional blackjack. However, the strategy is different than a normal game. Make sure to learn it before playing Spanish 21. Most West Virginia online casinos deal this game.

Zappit 21

Zappit 21 allows a player to redraw two cards if dealt 15, 16, 17, or 18. The player must keep the second hand. To cover this unique rule, the dealer pushes on 22. The house advantage for Zappit 21 is about double the standard game. If you are dealt a hard 15, 16, or 17, always redraw a new hand. On 18, draw a new hand against a 9, 10, or ace. Otherwise, the strategy is the same for Zappit 21 as it is for traditional blackjack games.

Blackjack pays 3/2. The dealer hits soft 17. Players that were not dealt a blackjack push on a dealer 22. Double down is permitted on hands where the Zappit feature is used. Up to three hands may be played. The minimum bet is $0.10. We found Zappit 21 at the DraftKings and FanDuel online casinos.

Getting started at online blackjack

To play online blackjack, you can play on the casino’s website or download an Android or iOS app.

Creating an online blackjack account

You will need to create an account to play for real money. DraftKings allows free play anonymously. The account creation process includes giving your name, address, email, phone number, date of birth, and last four digits of your SSN.

This information is used to verify your identity. It protects everyone from fraud. Once you are verified, it is time to make a deposit.

Making a deposit

There are many easy ways to make an online casino deposit in West Virginia. Visa, Mastercard, and Discover credit and debit cards are accepted. Electronic checks and bank wires are available. You can also use online wallets like PayPal, Skrill, Applepay, and Zelle.

Cash players can make a deposit through PayNearMe. This is a bill-pay service available at drug and convenience stores.

Playing blackjack online

Once your account is funded, it is time to play real-money online blackjack. Choose your preferred game from the menu. Most online casinos have a menu dedicated to blackjack that shows all the available options.

Once at a table, click the denomination of chip that you would like to use. The lowest is typically the minimum bet. That is usually $0.10. Click the betting circle for the number of times that equals your desired bet. If you click too many times, you can hit cancel and start over. When your bet is ready, click the deal button.

You and the dealer will each receive two cards. One of the dealer’s cards is placed face up. The other is down. If the dealer has an ace showing, insurance is offered. If the player has blackjack and the dealer does not, the player wins 3:2 at most online casino games. A few pay 6:5. If the player and dealer both have blackjack, it is a push, except in Spanish 21, where the player wins.

Player actions available

If there are no blackjacks, the player must make a decision. Here are the standard ones:

Hit: Draw one card. This is available until the player busts or stands.

Stand: Keep the cards and do not draw. Players can stand on any number of cards if the total is 21 or lower. The software automatically stands when the player makes a 21.

Double down: The player doubles the original bet and draws one card. The player must stand after doubling down. This is only available on the first two cards, except in Spanish 21 and Super Fun 21, where players may double down on 2, 3, or 4 cards.

Split: If the player is dealt a pair, the bet may be doubled, and the pairs split into two hands. Double down after splitting is usually allowed. Pairs may only be split once at most online blackjack games.

Surrender: Surrender is uncommon in most online blackjack games. It is available in Spanish 21, Super Fun 21, and special standard games. When a player surrenders, the dealer takes half of the original bet and returns the other half. The hand is then folded.

How a blackjack hand wins, loses, or pushes

If the player busts, the house wins and the hand is over. If the player stands or doubles down without busting, the dealer acts. The dealer must hit 16 and stand on 17. The table felt will disclose whether the dealer hits or stands on soft 17.

If the dealer busts, the player wins. If the player has more points than the dealer, the player wins. The bet is lost if the dealer has more points than the player. When the dealer and player have the same count creating a push, the bet is returned.

When the player splits, each hand is graded independently. It is possible for the player to win or lose both. The player and dealer can each win one. There can also be pushes.

Play a new hand or leave

Once the blackjack hand is over, it is time to decide if you would like to play another hand. If you do, you can click rebet to get a new hand with the same wager. You can also add to it and hit deal, or clear it and make a smaller bet.

Leaving the table is simple. Just close the game window. Your bankroll will automatically move to the cashier.

Collecting your online blackjack winnings

If you are lucky enough to win playing real money online blackjack, it is time to withdraw your chips. Since online casinos are legal in West Virginia, it is simple to get your winnings. Withdrawals are processed to the Play+ debit card, electronic checks, bank wires, Skrill, PayPal, and Applepay. Withdrawals are usually processed in one or two business days.
