Down Under Blackjack

Down Under Blackjack is dealt in a few Pennsylvania casinos, but not in West Virginia. We found this game at the DraftKings online casino. 

In Down Under Blackjack, the player has an idea about the dealer’s hole card. There are three colors assigned to a light system. The dealer discloses which one the down card represents. 

• Blue: 2, 3, 4, or 5
• Red: 6, 7, 8, or 9
• Gold: 10, J, Q, K, or ace

The player may use this information to change their strategy. Like every game with a player-friendly rule, there is a downside. The player pushes on a dealer 22 in most situations. The exceptions are that 21 always wins against 22, and a player dealt two gold cards also wins.

Free Bet Blackjack

Super Fun 21 Extreme

Super Fun 21 Extreme has some player-friendly rules and one to offset them. It is somewhat different than the standard Super Fun 21. It plays more like Spanish 21 without the bonus payouts. 

Players may double on 2, 3, or 4 cards. Split aces may be hit and re-split. Surrender is available at any time, including after a hit or double down. Players may double down after a double down, for a four-times bet. A six-card hand that does not bust wins. A player 21, including blackjack, automatically wins.

Spanish 21

Spanish 21 is the only blackjack variant found at both live and online casinos in West Virginia. The tens are removed from the deck. The face cards remain. Players can double down and hit at any time. Surrender is allowed after hitting. A player 21, including blackjack, always wins. There are bonuses for making a 678 and 777 hand that makes 21. Zappit 21

Zappit 21 allows a player to redraw two cards if dealt 15, 16, 17, or 18. The player must keep the second hand. To cover this unique rule, the dealer pushes on 22. The house advantage for Zappit 21 is about double the standard game. If you are dealt a hard 15, 16, or 17, always redraw a new hand. On 18, draw a new hand against a 9, 10, or ace. Otherwise, the strategy is the same for Zappit 21 as it is for traditional blackjack games. 

Blackjack pays 3/2. The dealer hits soft 17. Players that were not dealt a blackjack push on a dealer 22. Double down is permitted on hands where the Zappit feature is used. Up to three hands may be played. The minimum bet is $0.10. We found Zappit 21 at the DraftKings and FanDuel online casinos.

Split: If the player is dealt a pair, the bet may be doubled, and the pairs split into two hands. Double down after splitting is usually allowed. Pairs may only be split once at most online blackjack games.

Surrender: Surrender is uncommon in most online blackjack games. It is available in Spanish 21, Super Fun 21, and special standard games. When a player surrenders, the dealer takes half of the original bet and returns the other half. The hand is then folded. 

How a blackjack hand wins, loses, or pushes

If the player busts, the house wins and the hand is over. If the player stands or doubles down without busting, the dealer acts. The dealer must hit 16 and stand on 17. The table felt will disclose whether the dealer hits or stands on soft 17. 

If the dealer busts, the player wins. If the player has more points than the dealer, the player wins. The bet is lost if the dealer has more points than the player. When the dealer and player have the same count creating a push, the bet is returned.

When the player splits, each hand is graded independently. It is possible for the player to win or lose both. The player and dealer can each win one. There can also be pushes.

Play a new hand or leave

Once the blackjack hand is over, it is time to decide if you would like to play another hand. If you do, you can click rebet to get a new hand with the same wager. You can also add to it and hit deal, or clear it and make a smaller bet.
