There are three open poker rooms in West Virginia. These are located at Hollywood Casino at Charles Town Races, Mardi Gras Casino and Wheeling Island.
None of these West Virginia poker rooms are open daily. One is open five days a week. Another is open four days a week. The other is only open three days every week.
Only cash games are dealt at West Virginia poker rooms. There are no poker tournaments. Some poker rooms had these before the pandemic. None have returned due to limited staffing, seating, and hours.
Hollywood Casino at Charles Town Races poker room
The poker room at Hollywood Casino at Charles Town Races is the largest in West Virginia. It is home to 16 tables. There are eight seats at each table. The Hollywood Casino at Charles Town Races poker room opens at 9am daily. It closes at 3am on Sunday, Wednesday and Thursday. It stays open an extra hour on Friday and Saturday nights.
The main cash game is 1/2 no limit Texas hold’em. A 2/5 no limit game pops up during busier hours. High hand promotions include payouts for a royal flush any time the room is open and hourly high hands during promotional periods.
Mardi Gras poker room
The Mardi Gras poker room is open four days a week. The hours are 4pm to 2am on Wednesday and Thursday and 1pm to 2am on Friday and Saturday. There are up to five cash games available on Wednesday and Thursday. The Mardi Gras poker room can accommodate up to ten poker games on Friday and Saturday.
The standard game is 1/2 no limit Texas hold’em. It has a bad beat jackpot that is triggered when aces full of kings or better loses. That hand requires pocket aces. Four of a kind requires a pocket pair. A losing straight flush must use both hole cards to hit the Mardi Gras poker room bad beat jackpot.
Wheeling Island poker room
The poker room at Wheeling Island is open three days a week. Its hours are Thursday 5pm to 1am and Friday and Saturday from 3pm to 3am.
There are nine tables at the Wheeling Island poker room. The main game is 1/3 no limit Texas hold’em. A pot limit Omaha game with the same blind structure may be available during peak hours.
Players that make four of a kind spin the promotional wheel. There is a high hand promotion Thursday from 7pm to midnight. From 6pm to 1am on Friday and Saturday, a specific hand is picked for the hour. If a player makes that hand, a prize of at least $250 is awarded. It goes up $250 every hour that it is not hit.

Two West Virginia poker rooms are permanently closed
All five West Virginia casinos had a poker room before the pandemic. Only three have reopened. Mountaineer Casino announced in 2020 that its poker room was permanently closed.
Greenbrier has made no official announcement about its closed poker room. However, it has been removed from its website.
Online poker is legal in West Virginia
While online poker is legal in West Virginia, there are no licensed sites. This is probably due to the small population. West Virginia online casinos are legal and licensed. There is also legal mobile sports betting available in the state.
