West Virginia residents have waited six long years to play real‑money online poker from the comfort of home. Although the state legalized internet poker in 2019, no sites launched due to its relatively small player pool. However, that era is finally over, as first reported by Pokerfuse.

On May 29, 2025, BetRivers Poker became the first operator to offer real-money online poker in West Virginia, marking a major milestone for U.S. online poker and ending the state’s dry spell.

West Virginia is home to about 1.8 million residents, making it one of the smallest online gaming markets. This likely kept major online poker sites like BetMGM and WSOP out of the state. BetRivers has the online gambling monopoly in Delaware, another small state. The company linked Delaware, Michigan, Pennsylvania, and Michigan together. BetRivers has monopolies in Delaware and West Virginia. This is the first time Delaware has had legal online poker since 888 left the state 18 months ago. New Jersey and Nevada are not connected to West Virginia’s new poker site.

BetRivers expects to enter the New Jersey market by the end of 2025. That would make it the first licensed poker network available in five states. Currently, two sites are networked in four.

BetRivers is the first legal West Virginia poker site. Previously, players had to give action to unlicensed offshore sites. BetRivers offers some of the lowest rake in the U.S. online poker industry. The software has several unique features, like built-in stats that do not require third-party software, dynamic avatars, and auto-seating to prevent bum-hunting (pros following weak players from one table to another).

West Virginia has offered legal online sports betting and casino games since 2019. Popular sites include DraftKings, FanDuel, BetMGM, and Caesars. These companies are partnered with the state’s four racetrack casinos and Greenbrier, a private resort with a casino as one of its amenities.

Bonuses and games available

Players in Michigan, Pennsylvania, and West Virginia receive a 100% up to $1000 first deposit bonus. Delaware players receive a 100% up to $250 bonus.

Games include Texas hold’em and Omaha. Cash games, tournaments, and sit and gos are available. This includes lottery-style sit and gos.

It’s been a long six-year wait for online poker to arrive in West Virginia. But thanks to BetRivers Poker, operated by Rush Street Interactive, players in the Mountain State can finally join shared‑liquidity games spanning four states from their computer or mobile devices. BetRivers’ rapid expansion, advanced software, and rich bonus structure position it to seriously shake up the American online poker scene.
